INERT GAS Fire Suppression Systems

At Thompson, we have specified, installed and maintain 1000’s of Inergen systems by Ansul. The systems are locally refillable in case of discharge and we are proud to be a leader of this Clean Agent System. This system will never be removed from the market as the gas is naturally occurring. Please contact Thompson associate to see if an Inergen system is the right product for your needs.

Cylinder Banks Centrally located and selector valves sending agent to protected room as determined by Control panel(s)

INERGEN SYSTEMS – 150-BAR & 200-BAR

The INERGEN Fire Suppression System protects enclosed areas where people may be present, fire may strike day or night, and damage from conventional agents cannot be tolerated. Upon discharge, INERGEN agent fills the room, mixing with the air to suppress fires quickly and effectively.  Safe for people, INERGEN agent is non-synthetic and made of naturally occurring gases: nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide. Once discharged, it returns to the atmosphere in its natural state.

INERGEN agent is free of residues and corrosive by-products that may produce further property damage.  And because it poses no ozone depleting or global warming threat,INERGEN agent will never be subject to future legislative bans.

INERGEN SYSTEMS – 300-BAR IFLOW TECHNOLOGY

Using innovative iFLOW delivery technology, the INERGEN® 300-Bar Clean-Agent Fire Suppression System provides a regulated agent discharge into the protected hazard area.  INERGEN agent is composed of naturally-occurring gases found in the air we breathe. Unlike other inert gas agents, INERGEN agent includes a small percentage of carbon dioxide which enhances its ability to sustain life in a reduced oxygen atmosphere. INERGEN agent is nontoxic, does not produce corrosive decomposition products when exposed to fire and is designed to protect valuable or sensitive assets that could be damaged by conventional agents. When discharged, it will not produce a fog, so escape routes will remain visible. And in the aftermath of an incident, the agent simply returns to the atmosphere in its natural state causing no environmental impact.  During a typical inert gas system discharge, peak pressure and flow spikes occur. It is these peaks that are used to determine the pipe size specification and venting requirements. The iFLOW system reduces pressure spikes in the distribution pipe network during discharge. This allows for the use of smaller diameter, lower pressure-rated piping and reduced pressure relief venting requirements. An enhancement to the proven agent technology, the innovative iFLOW technology is based on three main elements:

  • The iFLOW valve reduces the peak pressure and regulates the flow at a nominal pressure of 60 bar (870 psi) in the 300 bar (4350 psi) system, while maintaining the ability to achieve 95% of the system design concentration within 60 or 120 seconds.

  • The iFLOW horizontal check valve minimizes installation time by facilitating the interconnection of containers and, in many cases, eliminates the need for a discharge manifold.

  • The iFLOW matrix system offers design flexibility and adaptation to complex architectural spaces. When compared with traditional racking, the matrix system allows storage containers to be positioned in traditional rows or around objects providing more flexibility during installation and quicker removal of containers from the bank during recharge and maintenance.

QATAR’S CLEAN AGENT FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM COMPANY

At Thompsons we pride our selves to be an environmental or  Green company.  We recommend NOVEC 1230 for the customer that has the environment aspects as an important consideration.  Also with a minimum 40% margin of safety in all designs it has the best safety factor should some large solid object be introduced to the area protected with out informing fire safety company for design considerations.  Thompson “Tip” Green + Safest for People = Good Option

With the new “High pressure” Saphire ( NOVEC 1230 ) system by Ansul with the option to use Selector valves.  Less agent being required to protect more areas potentially further reduces costs, hardware, and agent thus achieving an even lower environmental footprint

Sapphire by Ansul - Also known as Novec 1230 fire suppression

  • Novec1230 gas is synthetic/chemical fire suppression gas/agent.
  • Novec1230 is a waterless fire suppressant and extinguishes a fire by removing the free radicals or heat element of the fire triangle (Oxygen, Heat and Fuel).
  • The concentration of Novec 1230 is typically between 5.3% to 5.6% of the room volume.
  • Novec1230 in its natural state, looks and feels like water. Novec is a non conductive liquid that has some surprise characteristics. Often Novec is exhibited by filling a fish tank with the Novec fire suppression agent, then inserting a computer screen within the liquid switch on. Mobile phones can be placed within the liquid and will operate as normal.
  • Novec 1230 boils at 48 degrees Celsius and vaporizes in the fire suppression delivery when discharged.

Typical Novec1230 fire suppression Applications

  • DATA Centers
  • Communication Rooms
  • Telecommunication facilities
  • UPS Rooms
  • Medical facilities
  • Military Installations
  • Petrochemical
  • Industrial
  • Sensitive electronic rooms
  • Valuable assets Rooms – Art, Vaults, Monetary printing, Museums

NOVEC / Sapphire “High Pressure” System Option:

  • Selector valves can be used to distribute gas to multiple rooms
  • Saves Cylinders, space agent and likely lowers budget
  • Central bank system which allows cylinders to be contained more conveniently.

How safe is Novec1230 Fire Suppression gas?

Novec 1230 is classed as a clean agent which means that it is safe to use within occupied spaces. It does not reduce oxygen and uses very small concentrations by volume.

How does Novec 1230 work?

NOVEC 1230 DOES NOT Remove or reduce Oxygen! NOVEC 1230 is a synthetic/chemical fire suppression gas and extinguishes a fire by removing the free radicals or heat elements from the fire triangle. (Oxygen, Heat and Fuel).

The concentration of Novec 1230 is typically between 5.3% to 5.6% of the room volume. Novec1230 is discharged into the risk between 6 and 10 seconds.

What are the advantages of a Novec 1230 fire suppression system?

Due to the low concentration levels of Novec1230 fire suppression, means that less Novec cylinders and less space is required, making the storage footprint for the fire suppression agent very small.

Novec 1230 offers significant atmospheric advantages over it synthetic rivals. Novec1230 is considered as a green gas and contains no threat to both the Ozone Layer and Novec does not fall into the Kyoto protocol for global warming gases.

Novec 1230 fluid has zero ozone depletion potential and the lowest atmospheric lifetime for halocarbon alternatives:

  • Novec 1230 has an atmospheric lifetime of only 5 days
  • Novec 1230 has a Global Warming Potential of 1
  • Novec 1230 fluid has the greatest margin of safety for use in occupied spaces
  • It makes good business sense to use Novec 1230 fluid because it is a sustainable, long-term technology. Not only does Novec 1230 fluid meet today's regulations, but it meets those of the foreseeable future.
  •  At Thompson we offer engineered Novec 1230 fire protection systems tailored made/designed for its application. We have our own FM200 and NOVEC filling plant based in Qatar  We offer full technical design on Novec 1230 systems and we can provide a quotation within 24 hours from your enquiry and an installation rapidly thereafter pending approvals of course.

At Thompsons we have been installing Clean Agent systems since 2001 and many of FM – 200 systems in Qatar.  With our Ansul UL First Fill station located in Qatar we can Custom fill the correct amount of Agent for those urgent or forgotten electrical rooms.

FM-200® is a colorless, non-toxic gas perfectly suited to protect high value assets in areas that may be normally occupied, in locations where clean-up of other agents is problematic, when storage space for a fire suppression agent is restricted, or when an electrically non-conductive agent is required.

Advantages

  • The low concentration of FM-200 required means less visual obscurity and minimal risk to personnel
  • The small quantity of agent discharged minimizes over-pressurization of the protected area.
  • Average safety for personnel in affected area ( Disadantage - Less margin of safety factor risking over concentration of area compared to alternatives)
  • Cost effective when used with automatic detection to discharge FM-200 into protected area
  • Good ability to prevent re-ignition as long as concentration levels are maintained

FM-200 (HFC-227ea) is formed from the elements carbon, fluorine and hydrogen (CF3CHFCF3 - heptafluoropropane). The primary extinguishing

mechanism of FM-200 is heat absorption, with a secondary chemical

contribution from the thermal decomposition of FM-200 in the flame

FM-200 leaves no residue and is safe for use in occupied spaces.

Most common metals, such as aluminum, brass, steel, cast iron, lead

stainless steel, and copper, as well as rubber, plastic, and electronic components, are unaffected when exposed to FM-200.

WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS

FM-200 provides superior fire protection in a wide range of applications from sensitive electrical equipment to industrial applications using flammable liquids and storage space. FM-200 is clean, leaves no residue, thereby eliminating costly after-fire clean-up, and keeping expensive “down-time” to a minimum with waterless fire protection.

Data Centers, Sensitive Electronics, Art, Rare item, Delicate machinery are all well protected by FM-200.

At Thompson ( Contact Link ) we have installed 100’s of FM – 200 systems and with our Ansul UL First Fill station located in Qatar we can Custom fill the correct amount of Agent for those urgent or Forgotten electrical rooms.
